Barcroft is a very inclusive school. It maintains the 'Inclusion Award' which celebrates how we provide the children with the correct support to ensure they thrive and develop as individuals. We display a guidance code in the school entrance to ensure visitors are fully aware of our children’s needs which they may see when they enter classrooms.

Here at Barcroft, it is our priority to ensure children become independent learners and achieve their full potential in life. We take our responsibilities of equality very seriously and work very hard to ensure that everybody connected to the school is made to feel welcome and provided with the resources and support to enable them to enjoy school and feel fully involved in what we do! The voice of the child and parent is at the heart of everything!

We strive to ensure that our lessons are highly differentiated and adapted so that all children with special educational needs are able to access the curriculum at their level and can achieve. We strive to give them the same opportunities so that they can work alongside their peers. We work closely with our teachers, teaching assistants, learning support assistants and external professionals to deliver an inclusive curriculum and to ensure that the correct support is in place for our children.

Our children are given access to a wider curriculum in many different ways including through additional sports clubs and competitions tailored to their needs. We also have our own sensory room for the children with additional sensory needs to thrive and feel safe and secure.

We understand that having a child with special educational needs can be challenging and sometimes isolating for parents. To support parents through this journey we host SEND coffee mornings, which gives our parents the opportunity to share, advice and support each other. We provide termly updated newsletters to parents with information from the Local Authority.

Having a voice heard and making a difference is our SEN motto and we now have our own SEN school council that work alongside the SENDCo each term. Our mission is to ensure children across the school are listened to and that Barcroft is the best it can be. The children meet regularly to forward ideas and suggestions to help improve the learning and the school environment.

We know that for parents, communication and understanding of the individual is key to a successful education and we hope that by working together we can ensure that every child at Barcroft Primary School can achieve and be successful.
